Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
Located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, the Kumarakom bird sanctuary is spread across 14 acres. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, is a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Pathiramanal (sands of midnight), an enchanting island on the lake, can be accessed by boat from here.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is situated on the banks of Vembanad Lake at Kumarakom in Kottayam. The sanctuary is spread over 14 acres on the southern bank of the Kavanar River. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary has well laid out paths for moving around within the sanctuary. Developed in a rubber plantation as a bird sanctuary by an Englishman, the sanctuary was formerly known as Baker’s Estate
Periyar National Park
Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area spread across the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta. The park is often called the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary or Thekkady. Though its a Tiger Reserve, tourists come here to view the Indian elephants. Periyar is amongst the very few wild life parks where one can see wild life while sitting in a boat.
Sprawled over an area of 925 Sq .km, Periyar is one of the 27 tiger reserves in India. Zealously guarded and efficiently managed reserve is a repository of rare, endemic and endangered flora and fauna and forms the major watershed of two important rivers of Kerala, the Periyar and Pamba. Periyar National park offers full-day guided trekking and rafting programmes in which they also provide food.
Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
The Thattekad Sanctuary, also known as Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is located in the Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district on the northern bank of the Periyar river. Thattekad was developed by the untiring efforts of India's birdman Dr Salim Ali. Ali described Thattekad in the 1930's as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the eastern Himalayas.
Thattekad Bird Sanctuary was notified by Kerala government based on a recommendation by Dr Salim Ali in 1983. Thattekad Bird Sanctuary spread over an area of 25 sq km, is home to over 280 species of birds including Crimson-throated Barbet, Sunbird and Fairy Blue bird. The Thattekad Bird sanctuary is open from 6 AM-6 PM. Indian nationals will have to pay an entry fee of Rs. 10. An additional fee is applicable for camera.

The paragliding site at Bir - Billing near Baijnath is regarded as among the best in the world for Paragliding. Billing at 2290 m is the take-off site and Bir is the village at the landing site. Many trek routes also pass throgh Bir - Billing.
Bir and Billing are renowned as a destination for ecotourism and meditation studies. Billing is located in the greater Bir region about 14 kms from Bir. Set amidst paths winding through tea gardens into the forests and mountains to the north this region in Himachal is amongst the most tranquil and exilirating at the same time.
Chail
Chail was the capital of Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh who built his palace in Chail when he was exciled from Shimla by Lord Kitchener. Chail is a quaint village about 50 kms from Shimla. Surrounded by lush forests and a commanding view of the snow-capped Himalayas Chail is the ideal refuge if you want to escape the crowds and spend some time close to nature.
Chail at an altitude of - 2,250 m is at a higher altitude than Shimla which is 2,213 metres above sea level. Shimla and Kasauli can be seen from Chail. Chail Sanctuary, cricket ground, and the gurudwara are the main spots in Chail. Chail is an ideal destination for those who are looking for a secluded destination away from tourist crowds.
Kullu
Kulanthapitha - The end of habitable world as it was known erstwhile, Kullu is a small town in the lower Himalayas which truely comes to life during the Dusshera festival. Kullu valley with its tranquil landscapes culture and temples is one of the major tourist destinations in Himachal. Manali

Being a major tourist attraction in Manali there are many stalls selling shawls and novelties near the temple. You can pose for photographs with Yaks rabbits and sheep here for a small fee!
Manikaran
Manikaran at an altitude of 1760 mts 80 kms from Manali is located in the Parvati Valley along the banks of river Parvati. Manikaran is considered to be the prime place in kulant peeth as per the brahmand puran. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. The Manikaran Gurudwara or Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurudwara is commemorated to the visit of Guru Nanak Dev to Manikaran.
Manikaran is surrounded by the Harinder Mountains and the prime attraction of the town is its hot springs that are located in and around Manikaran. Manikaran is a well known pilgrim center with the Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara Ram chandra & Shivaji temples. A dip in the hot springs here are considered to be spiritually cleansing.
Nahan
Located close to Delhi at just 250 kms, Nahan is a perfect weekend destination from Delhi. At an altitude of about 3100 fts Nahan is a quaint hill station with amiable weather almost all through the year. Temples in Nahan are a major attraction for tourists. Famous temples in the town include Jagannath Temple, Kalisthan Temple and Miyan Mandir.
